Careers at ALC

Overview

The American Cultural Association employs over 500 teachers and 200 administrative staff from many nationalities. ALC Rabat employs approximately 80 English language instructors and 25 administrative and support staff.

ALC Rabat instructors are certified to Teach English as a Foreign Language (TEFL/TESOL) from an internationally recognized certification course. When recruiting, preference is given to courses of at least 120 contact hours that include a face-to-face practice teaching component and reflective feedback.

See our Community Service, Activities, Modules and Professional Development pages for opportunities awaiting enthusiastic candidates. Foreign nationals should either have previous experience living in Morocco or a keen interest in its culture. In addition to teaching qualifications, preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate emotional intelligence and an ability to thrive in an international setting.

Living in Rabat

Living in Rabat combines the charm of an historic city and the comfort of a modern capital city. Situated at the estuary of the Bouregreg River and the Atlantic Ocean, Rabat has an ideal climate, with mild ocean breezes year-round. Rabat is also ideally located for access to other points in Morocco, offering direct train service to major cities, including the new 320-kph Al Boraq TGV, connecting Casablanca, Rabat and Tangier.

Rabat is both walkable and bikable, with clean air and sunshine year-round. The city has an inviting human scale and broad blue skies, thanks to building height restrictions. A new system of parks and bike paths extends miles along the rugged Atlantic coastline. Downtown is well planned, with broad arcades lining the major avenues, and if you enjoy both historic and modern architecture - particularly Mid-Century - the city is packed with gems. Getting around is easy via a sleek, two-line tramway serving different neighborhoods and ALC. The Oudaya, Rabat's ancient kasbah, is situated on an oceanside cliff, with sweeping views of the ocean and Bouregreg Valley. Both the Oudaya and medina are within walking distance of the ALC.

ALC's teachers and staff live throughout Rabat and Salé. The housing market is tight and more expensive than other Moroccan cities, but affordable and comfortable apartments can be found within walking distance of ALC and the city's tramways.
